Long Description

Santa Claus and the Mystery of the Aurora is a festive adventure that blends ancient folklore with modern science and international intrigue. The story begins with a narration by Santa Claus himself, who reveals the secret origin of his magic: the Aurora Heartstone. Centuries ago, the winter goddess Holda gifted a piece of her heart to a kind traveler named Nicholas . This stone, powered by the Aurora Borealis, grants Santa eternal life and the ability to manipulate time, allowing him to deliver gifts to all the children of the world in a single night .

In the present day, the story shifts to Jack Christmas, a ten-year-old boy living in North London who has cerebral palsy. Jack is a bright, observant child with a deep love for the holiday season. While the rest of the world is fascinated by news of a massive solar flare causing the Northern Lights to appear as far south as London, Jack intuitively senses that something is wrong with the "Dance of the Winter Enchantment" . His dreams are filled with images of a worried Santa and a broken star, leading him to believe that the magic of Christmas is in jeopardy.

At the North Pole, Jack’s fears are confirmed. Santa and his chief helper, a "Yulefaun" named Bocky, discover that the Heartstone has developed a massive crack. The shifting of the Earth's magnetic pole is preventing the Aurora from properly charging the stone, and magic is leaking out. If the stone fails, the workshop will go dark, the reindeer will lose their ability to fly, and the holiday season will end forever.

The narrative follows two parallel paths: Santa’s desperate attempt to seek help and Jack’s determination to provide it. In an unprecedented move, Santa activates a "red phone" to contact the United Nations, eventually traveling to New York to address an emergency assembly. However, he finds himself stymied by the complexities of adult politics, as various countries use their veto power to block international cooperation for their own national security interests .

Meanwhile, Jack and his best friend, Alfie, conduct their own research into the science of the Aurora. With the help of Jack’s younger sister, Sophie, they realize that the moving magnetic pole is the key to the crisis . Jack decides to send a heartfelt email to the North Pole, hoping a child’s perspective can solve the problem that world leaders are ignoring.

The novel explores themes of resilience, the importance of a child's perspective, and the conflict between scientific reality and magical belief. It highlights how Jack’s physical challenges do not limit his imagination or his ability to save the day. As the countdown to Christmas Eve reaches its final days, the story builds to a global race against time to mend the Heartstone and ensure that the spirit of Holda continues to shine.

Alternate back of book description

The lights are fading. The magic is leaking. And only one boy knows why.

For eighteen centuries, the Aurora Heartstone has pulsed with the green and gold light of the North, powering Santa’s workshop and fueling the joy of Christmas. But when the Northern Lights begin to dance over the streets of London, ten-year-old Jack Christmas knows it isn't just a scientific wonder—it's a warning.

At the North Pole, the Heartstone is cracking. Santa Claus is facing a "Dark Christmas," and world leaders are too busy bickering at the United Nations to help. As the countdown to Christmas Eve begins, Jack and his friends must race to send a message to the top of the world.

From the snowy peaks of Lapland to the grand halls of New York City, Santa Claus and the Mystery of the Aurora is a magical journey about the power of belief, the strength of a child’s heart, and the quest to save the most wonderful night of the year.

The Science of Magic: The story grounds its fantastical elements in real science, such as solar flares, magnetic pole shifts, and the Aurora Borealis .
Modernized Mythology: Incorporates modern elements like laptops, the United Nations, and international diplomacy into the Santa Claus mythos.
The Gift of Hope: A recurring theme that magic is not something to be owned, but a gift to be carried through kindness and belief.

Global Anxiety: The narrative features a "Dark Christmas" threat and the potential end of the holiday season, which may cause mild distress for younger readers.
